Midway Gardens Playing Cards
Product detailed description
Midway Gardens was a complex built in the early 20th century on the outskirts of Chicago. It was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, who is hailed as the greatest American architect. The complex was intended to serve as a place for leisure activities, but due to Prohibition, it could no longer be financed and was demolished in 1929.
Art of Play, in partnership with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, created the Midway Gardens Playing Cards as a tribute to this architectural gem. Its design uses several elements from Wright's construction.
The back design is inspired by stained glass windows. The figures depict “Sprites” sculptures, several of which have managed to survive to the present day. All the faces use decorative elements of concrete tiles. The indexes are done in Wright's 1931 font.
